This UV LED bulb attracts moths, beetles and other night insects, and combines 365 nm and 395 nm chips in a single E27 tube. It is built for entomology field work - night collecting, light surveys, garden and campsite observation - and screws into any standard 220 V fitting.

You get the bulb + optional net cage only. There is no lamp holder, socket or cable in the package, so you will need an E27 fitting - the standard screw fitting used across Europe.

At 4 W and 6 W the power draw is tiny, and that is the whole point. You are not tied to a wall socket: a cheap 12 V inverter plugged into a car cigarette lighter will run this all night, and so will a battery pack with a 230 V inverter. No generator, no fuel, no engine noise scaring everything off the sheet. Where there is a socket - a cabin, a campsite, a garden - you just plug it in.

The two wavelengths do different jobs. The 365 nm chips sit at the deep end of the near-UV range and pull in the widest spread of species, while 395 nm reads brighter to the human eye and makes the setup easier to work around in the dark. Having both in one tube means you are not choosing between reach and usability.

The optional Light Diffusing Mesh Cage measures 40 x 40 x 60 cm. It is not a trap and it catches nothing. The mesh spreads the light so the whole surface glows instead of a single bright point, which makes the source visible from much further away, and it gives the insects a surface to settle on where you can actually see and photograph them.

Important - this is a 220-240 V bulb

It will not run on a 110-120 V supply. We have switched shipping off for every country on 110-120 V, so if you live in one of them, this listing will not let you order at all. That is deliberate. We would rather lose the sale than send you a bulb you cannot plug in.

Not available for: United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan, most of Central America and the Caribbean, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Suriname. Brazil and Saudi Arabia are off the list too, because they run both voltages depending on the region and there is no safe way to guess which one you have.

Works anywhere on 220-240 V: all of Europe including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, most of Asia and Africa, and Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Bolivia and Paraguay.

The socket is E27, the standard European screw fitting. It also fits an American E26 socket, the two differ by about a millimetre - but that does not help here, because the problem is the voltage, not the thread.

Product safety

Emits UV light. Do not look directly into the light and do not point it at anyone's eyes.

For standard 220-240 V E27 fittings. Switch off the power before screwing the bulb in or out, and keep it away from water.

We take great care in packaging our specimens.

Each pinned specimen is:

  • Securely attached to a specially designed internal mounting platform shaped like a pinning board
  • Placed inside a strong cardboard box
  • Stabilized to prevent movement during transport

This system ensures that specimens remain firmly in place and are protected during worldwide shipping.

No :)

For orders outside the EU, customers do not pay any additional customs duties, import taxes, or delivery fees. We handle the shipping process to ensure a smooth international delivery experience.

If you have questions about a specific country, please contact us before ordering.

Yes, we ship worldwide, including the USA.

We use DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping for U.S. orders.

This means no additional import duties, customs fees, or taxes are charged to you. Your order will arrive without any extra payments on delivery.

There may occasionally be minor delays due to customs processing, but no additional fees are required from the customer.

We are fully transparent about sourcing.

All specimens are either:

  • Sustainably farmed, or
  • Wild collected under legal regulations

It is important to understand that claims suggesting all perfect specimens “lived their full natural life” are misleading. In nature, butterflies and moths that die naturally typically have worn or damaged wings. Specimens in perfect condition are usually sourced before natural deterioration occurs.

We do not make false claims. Instead, we focus on responsible and sustainable sourcing.

What does sustainable sourcing mean?

For us, sustainable sourcing includes:

  • Butterfly farms in the country of origin, supporting local communities
  • Specimens bred by us or trusted partners
  • Legal and regulated wild collection
  • Responsible and transparent practices

Customers can use product filters to choose between farmed and wild-collected specimens.

A papered (unmounted) butterfly or moth is:

  • Stored in a protective paper envelope
  • With wings folded closed
  • Not yet pinned or spread

To display it, you need to pin and spread the specimen yourself using standard entomological techniques.

Papered specimens are ideal for collectors who prefer preparing their own displays.

If your package is lost, damaged, or arrives in unsatisfactory condition, we will:

  • Send a replacement item, or
  • Issue a full refund

You may choose the solution that works best for you. Customer satisfaction is our priority.
