Entomology pinning boards
Pinning boards (spreading boards) for mounting and spreading butterflies, moths and other insects, in flat and adjustable-angle styles. Essential equipment for preparing specimens for display or study.
Many of our boards are handcrafted in our own workshop in the heart of Europe, built to last and trusted by collectors, universities and museums. Shipped worldwide with tracking.
Which pinning board should I choose?
- Standard - XPS foam with an 8° angle, in several sizes. The everyday choice for most butterflies and moths.
- Large - the same XPS foam with wider panels, including a hawkmoth size, for big moths and butterflies.
- Flat - 0°, for specimens you plan to frame. A flat-spread butterfly lies in one plane, so its wing tips don't press against the glass of a shallow frame.
- Adjustable - soft balsa wood with an adjustable groove, so one board fits different body sizes.
- Angle-adjustable - my own design: both side panels lock independently from 0° to 60° in 10° steps. You won't find this board anywhere else.
What are the grid stickers for?
The lines run across the board, at a right angle to the groove. They help you set the inner edge of the forewing at 90° to the body and keep the left and right wings symmetrical.
I've been making pinning boards for more than 15 years and use them for my own collection and for every specimen I sell. Not sure which one fits your specimens? Read How to Choose a Butterfly Pinning Board or write me at info@entomoboxes.com.
