African Moon Moth (Argema mimosae) – Live Cocoons

Captive-bred live cocoons of Argema mimosae, the African Moon Moth from the woodlands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. Raised in farms — ready for emergence.

EU SHIPPING ONLY — Due to live animal import regulations, these cocoons can only be shipped within the European Union. Orders from outside the EU cannot be completed at checkout.

What you get:

  • Live Argema mimosae cocoon(s) — farmed, not wild collected
  • Securely packaged for safe transit

What to expect:

Argema mimosae is one of Africa's most striking silk moths, with pale green wings, long trailing tails and bold eyespots. Hang the cocoon(s) inside a mesh breeding cage, keep at room temperature away from direct sunlight, and mist lightly with water every 2-3 days. Emergence typically occurs within a few weeks depending on temperature. Perfect for breeding projects, educational purposes or witnessing metamorphosis first-hand.

Our cocoons come from small-scale farming that supports local communities in Africa and offers a sustainable alternative to wild collection, helping take pressure off wild populations.

Please note: Approximately 10% of cocoons may not hatch — this is a natural occurrence in all silk moth species and cannot be fully controlled even under optimal conditions. By purchasing, customers accept this risk.

We take great care in packaging our specimens.

Each pinned specimen is:

  • Securely attached to a specially designed internal mounting platform shaped like a pinning board
  • Placed inside a strong cardboard box
  • Stabilized to prevent movement during transport

This system ensures that specimens remain firmly in place and are protected during worldwide shipping.

No :)

For orders outside the EU, customers do not pay any additional customs duties, import taxes, or delivery fees. We handle the shipping process to ensure a smooth international delivery experience.

If you have questions about a specific country, please contact us before ordering.

Yes, we ship worldwide, including the USA.

We use DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping for U.S. orders.

This means no additional import duties, customs fees, or taxes are charged to you. Your order will arrive without any extra payments on delivery.

There may occasionally be minor delays due to customs processing, but no additional fees are required from the customer.

We are fully transparent about sourcing.

All specimens are either:

  • Sustainably farmed, or
  • Wild collected under legal regulations

It is important to understand that claims suggesting all perfect specimens “lived their full natural life” are misleading. In nature, butterflies and moths that die naturally typically have worn or damaged wings. Specimens in perfect condition are usually sourced before natural deterioration occurs.

We do not make false claims. Instead, we focus on responsible and sustainable sourcing.

What does sustainable sourcing mean?

For us, sustainable sourcing includes:

  • Butterfly farms in the country of origin, supporting local communities
  • Specimens bred by us or trusted partners
  • Legal and regulated wild collection
  • Responsible and transparent practices

Customers can use product filters to choose between farmed and wild-collected specimens.

A papered (unmounted) butterfly or moth is:

  • Stored in a protective paper envelope
  • With wings folded closed
  • Not yet pinned or spread

To display it, you need to pin and spread the specimen yourself using standard entomological techniques.

Papered specimens are ideal for collectors who prefer preparing their own displays.

If your package is lost, damaged, or arrives in unsatisfactory condition, we will:

  • Send a replacement item, or
  • Issue a full refund

You may choose the solution that works best for you. Customer satisfaction is our priority.
